US experts, including intelligence and security staff sent to Nigeria to help with finding and rescuing Chibok school girls, have left the country, with the children still missing.
The Chibok issues was reportedly discussed at the White House end of December between the BringBackOurGirls movement leaders and the US officials. In particular, it was discussed why the American government did not manage to provide significant help.
New York Times recalls that after the April 14, 2014 kidnap of more than 200 girls in Borno town, “the United States sent surveillance drones and about 30 intelligence and security experts to help the Nigerian military try to rescue them”. However seven months later, after the White House meeting the experts were said to have returned without any positive results reached.
The relationship between the Nigerian and US sides are said to be tense over the Chibok issue as the parties allegedly provide contrasting versions on the obstacles related to the operation.
