With the music video for his latest single “No Wahala” garnering nearly 100,000 views on Youtube, and receiving massive support from the likes of BBC 1Xtra and Bang Radio, fast-rising British Nigerian artist SONA is without a doubt one of the stand-out new artists of 2014 so far.
His brand new single “Ijo Sona” has already been streamed over 100,000 times on SoundCloud and now, the rising star is proud to debut the exciting and infectious new music video for “Ijo Sona”, directed by Alexx Adjei, for our viewing pleasure. The refreshing visuals capture Sona in his performance element, as the life of an ‘Owambe’ party right in the heart of London.
Collaborating once again with O.Y beatz on production, “Ijo Sona” is a captivating highlife song which sees Sona embracing his cultural roots in celebration, and focuses on the traditional elements of Nigerian music instrumentation. Mixing old school musical nuances with Sona’s own blend of contemporary lyrics and vocal sensibilities, “Ijo Sona” also pays homage to the likes of Sir Shina Peters who, with his Afro Juju sound, changed the face of African music in the 90’s.
As we attested to when Sona debuted “No Wahala”, the Sona Movement for 2014 is a tour-de-force in the making, and as we embark on the whirlwind that “Ijo Sona” is about to take us on, please get ready for what Sona has in store. In the meantime, enjoy the Alexx Adjei-directed music video for “Ijo Sona” below.
